After a lawn mower has sat in a cold garage all winter, it may not want to start when you finally have to drag it out in late spring to cut your grass. Hopefully, you won't have to buy any lawn mower repair parts in order to get it running again, but before you do, there are a few things you might be able to repair on your own.
If your lawn mower was operating fine before you put it up for the winter and it won't start, it is possible the gas you left in the engine has deteriorated and simply won't work anymore. Or it may start up for you but as you are mowing the grass, it starts chugging or cutting out and may finally quit on you altogether. This could be a sign that the air filter needs changed or the lawn mower's spark plugs may need replaced. These kinds of lawn mower repair parts are not expensive and easily replaceable. You can buy lawn mower repair parts at your nearest hardware store.
Often you will be mowing with no problems and suddenly run over something hard which makes your lawn mower stop. If you try to start it up again and have no luck, this could indicate that you have a broken flywheel key. If you happen to have a lawn mower that is more than fifteen years old and it won't start, you will probably have to purchase several lawn mower repair parts such as points, coils and gaskets.
Riding lawn mowers will sometimes not start because they have gotten water in the gas tank. Water will settle to the bottom of the gas tank and the carburetor and prevent the engine from utilizing the gasoline. If this happens, you will have to drain the carburetor and allow the tank to thoroughly dry before refilling it with gasoline again. Sometimes dewy or wet grass will clog the belt drive on a riding lawn mower and occasionally cause the belt to snap if it is not cleaned off. You will have to purchase and replace the belt in this case, which is relatively simple to do.
If you need to buy lawn mower repair parts but are not sure which ones are appropriate for your lawn mower, explain the problems you are having to the sale person, along with the make and model of your lawn mower, and he will assist you in finding the ones you need.
